Keep Calm and Keep Cool in the Heatwave

18.07.14

Unless you live under a dark rock very far away, you’ve probably heard that there’s going to be a heatwave in the UK this weekend.

We’ve all read the ‘health warnings’ in the press (it’s like us Brits have never seen sunshine before) and noticed the increase in half-naked bodies with questionable tan lines walking the streets (this is not OK, by the way).  It begs the question, what is one to do when temperatures are set to hit 30 degrees in some regions and you don’t want to waste a second of your weekend…

The team at JAMpr has put together a short guide to heatwave-appropriate activities, which we hope you’ll find useful. We’d love to hear how you’re spending the warm weekend so tweet us on @JAM_Manchester

1.Friday 18th to Sunday 20th July is The Warrington Music Festival – ideal for music fans or for those after some entertainment while picnicking with the family. On Saturday evening Bank Park, Warrington, hosts Proms in the Park and the festival closes on Sunday evening with a performance by Scouting for Girls at Golden Square – visit the Facebook page for more information:

2.Street Feast returns to Kingsland Road, London, this weekend for a summer-long stretch of night markets for the foodies amongst you. The tempting line-up of street food favourites includes Korean burritos, delicate Taiwanese buns, crisp fried chicken and juicy burgers, among many others.

3.If you’re lucky enough to be visiting the Lake District this weekend, head to Coniston Country Fair on Sunday. It is a traditional event offering visitors an enthralling insight into Cumbrian Life. The show attracts thousands of visitors and locals each year so head over for some lakeside fun in the sun!

4.If you’re based in Manchester (like us Jammers), there’s the chance to explore the newspaper heritage behind Manchester’s Printworks and tour exclusively behind the scenes. The tour takes place on Sunday 20th July at 11am.  It includes a trip to The Printworks’ stunning rooftop garden, which boasts amazing views across the city (who doesn’t want to be on a rooftop garden on a sunny day?).

5.Finally, the fun of throwing a foam ball at an opponent in fancy dress returns to Newquay this summer. Lusty Glaze Beach Dodgeball 2014 is to take place on Sunday July 20th 2014. It’s the perfect event for beach lovers looking for some seaside entertainment!

So, have fun in the sun and keep cool in the heat!
