When I was little I dreamed about what I’d be when I grew up – full-time princess, dolphin trainer, chocolate taster… but as I got older being a princess became less desirable (and realistic) so I had to make other plans for the future.
After embarking on my Business degree I started to explore my career options and decided that PR was the area for me. I did some research on PR companies in the area and that’s when I stumbled upon JAMpr. With it being a small, yet successful company, I knew for sure that I’d get a real understanding of what PR is all about.
On my first day the whole team were very welcoming, so I felt at ease immediately.
At JAM you hit the ground running, so you can gain as much experience in each discipline as possible, it’s not just about making tea! I began my placement with doing some research on JAM’s clients, focusing especially on Chubbsafes, who has recently launched a new range of domestic safes. I was tasked with selling-in the news of the new range to national and regional media to try and secure coverage – if this taught me anything it’s that no one actually reads their emails!! By the end of the week however, I’d successfully secured my first piece of coverage (Wahoo!!).
My second week brought lots of research for a new client that we could potentially work with – it was nice to be given the opportunity to have an input in JAM’s future.
I’m thoroughly enjoying my time with JAM and have learned so much already. I would recommend anyone who’s thinking of a career in PR to get some experience and try it out, you never know, it could be your dream job!!
