Surrounded by former warehouses turned apartments and just a short distance from all of the main shopping areas, entertainment and sports venues, The Abel Heywood’s boutique hotel is the ideal place to stay for a short break. The pub is full of character and warmth, perfect for a pint and some extraordinary food.
Brief
We were tasked with designing and producing a full brand identity including signage, printed materials for the whole venue and limited edition launch night promotional materials.

APPROACH
We researched Abel Heywood (1810 – 1893, publisher, police commissioner, radical and Mayor of Manchester), who is described as ‘not your ordinary man’ thanks to his colourful career. We took this as the concept for the venue, developing it into ‘Not your ordinary pub / drinks / menu / hotel’.
The creative designs were based on the 1800s period, including illustration, typographics and layout design, using modern design and printing techniques to bring the materials up to date.
Results
From day one Jam immersed themselves in the brief. Their concept allowed the interior design and brand to work in harmony. The end result was brilliant, an award-winning brand and a concept that’s still going strong after three successful years.
